Overview

The Department of the Navy—which includes both the Navy and Marine Corps—operates several Program Executive Offices (PEOs) to deliver major warfighting platforms, ships, combat systems and unmanned systems.

PEO Aircraft Carriers

  • Oversees the design, construction, delivery and life‑cycle support of the Navy’s aircraft carriers.
  • Manages in‑service nuclear‑powered carriers and development of the Ford‑class carriers.

PEO Integrated Warfare Systems (IWS)

  • Delivers naval combat systems, sensors and weapons integration across surface and subsurface platforms.
  • Integrates radars, missiles, combat management systems and electronic warfare into the Aegis combat system and other ships.

PEO Ships

  • Manages procurement and life‑cycle support for surface combatants, amphibious ships and auxiliary vessels.
  • Programs include Arleigh Burke‑class destroyers, amphibious transport docks, support ships and logistics vessels.

PEO Submarines (Team Submarine)

  • Oversees the design, construction and modernization of the Navy’s submarine fleet.
  • Manages the Virginia‑class attack submarines, Columbia‑class ballistic‑missile submarines and associated combat systems.

PEO Unmanned & Small Combatants

  • Develops and procures unmanned surface and undersea vehicles and small warships.
  • Manages programs such as the Littoral Combat Ship, frigates, mine countermeasures systems and unmanned maritime systems.

PEO Land Systems (Marine Corps)

  • Provides acquisition and life‑cycle management for Marine Corps ground combat and amphibious systems.
  • Key programs include the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV), Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) and ground-based air defense systems.
